Welcome to the Umshwathi FPA website.

The Umshwathi Fire Protection Association is responsible for the co-ordination and management of rural fire activities undertaken within the boundaries of the Umshwathi Municipality of KwaZulu-Natal.

The Umshwathi FPA was established in 2006 and was formed to allow the participants to enhance effective fire prevention, protection, suppression and other fire control measures within the respective areas at risk from uncontrolled fires for the good of the local community in general.

The Umshwathi FPA is responsible for ensuring facilities and resources are available for the reduction, readiness, response and recovery from any forest or rural veld fire incident.

The area of operation is centred on the towns of Wartburg / New Hanover and is approximately 234,163.3 hectares and made up of grassland and forestry.
